Packaging food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, household products, or any perishable and non-perishable items in our daily life are all mylar bags.
These bags have a metallic foil-like appearance, but mylar is a plastic called BoPET.
What is a mylar bag?
BoPET (biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate) is a polyester film made from oriented polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which has high tensile strength and chemical and dimensional properties.
It has high tensile strength, chemical and dimensional stability, transparency, reflectivity, gas and odor barrier, and electrical insulation.
Mylar bag is the trademark of a company that uses mylar bag as a substitute for bags made of BoPet material because it is easier to pronounce and more appealing than BoPet.
Polyester film bag applications include.
Polyester film bags are effective in insulating light, moisture, oxygen, and odor to become the ability of many food packaging and pharmaceutical packaging. For food packaging, we usually see
Candy, dried fruit, etc., are used in Mylar bag packaging. Many weed and marijuana packages in the dispensary are also packaged in mylar bags. Other applications include.
pasta, wheat, oats, beans, rice, dehydrated fruits, dried corn, freeze-dried foods, milk powder, coffee, tea vanilla, spices, brown sugar, nutritional supplement powders, camping meals, emergency food, important documents, books, precious metals, etc.
How are mylar bags made?
Polyester (PET) film is a film material made of polyethylene terephthalate as raw material, extruded into a thick sheet, and then biaxially stretched.
To make polyester film bags, you must complete the polyester film itself. This is done by extruding molten PET onto a cooling roller cured into the film.
Once the film is formed, it is first stretched in two different directions by the rollers and then fed into the frame to be tested at right angles.
Stretching the film in this manner improves the film’s properties. After testing, the polyester film is heat-set to ensure it does not shrink.
Depending on its intended use, the film can also be made in different thicknesses and widths.
Structure of mylar bags
A typical mylar bag is a 3-layer film. The outer layer is made of BoPET (biaxially oriented polyester). Our bags have a layer of aluminum metal in the middle (much like heavy-duty aluminum foil).
The innermost layer is polyethylene plastic for safe, direct food contact and easy heat sealing. Together, these 3 layers form a high-quality film that is 7 mils (177 microns) thick.
Of course, as a bag manufacturer, we also produce bags with a four or five-layer structure, and we offer custom bags, not only the number of layers.
Bag size and printing patterns are all customizable.
What styles of mylar bags are available?
Mylar bags are typically used for food packaging and weed packaging, but to better appeal to consumers, different bag styles are often created to fit specific products.
- Zipper Bag
- Vacuum bags
- Flat bottom bags
- Buckle bags
- Stand-up bags
- Back seal bag
